I like working out how a system should fit together — and then building it.

Senior Frontend Engineer

Pilot engagement for an international investment bank: rewrote the React interface of an in-house Electron application for monitoring live stock trades and positions — one of ten engineers selected from roughly 1,000 applicants.

  • Modernised a legacy desktop application incrementally, in an international team spread across several time zones.
  • Delivered under strict banking compliance: client-issued hardware, remote desktops only, no code leaving the bank's environment.

Design system

HSL — Helsinki Regional Transport Authority

Main developer of the React component library behind HSL's digital products — built from scratch, published as an npm package, adopted by most product teams. I own the component APIs, versioning and releases.

Details
  • Started from a handful of pre-existing components; everything after that — API design, release process, documentation in Storybook — was designed from scratch.
  • Designed the distribution model twice over — first through an internal package registry, later as a published npm package.
  • With most product teams as consumers, API design and disciplined versioning matter more than adding features.

Personal information portal, hsl.fi & ticket store

HSL — Helsinki Regional Transport Authority

Lead frontend developer of the customer portal of a metropolitan transport system, in a team of three to four — a Finnish-first Next.js application under strict public-sector accessibility rules, integrating many very different backend APIs. Also the team's security champion.

  • Worked through the architecture and security of sensitive flows — a parent acting on behalf of a child, pensioner certificate verification from a mobile wallet app.
  • Also contributed to hsl.fi, the ticket store and the portal's Nest.js backend.
  • As security champion: trained in secure development practices, responsible for threat modelling and for getting security tooling into the projects.

Ad delivery platform & newsroom development

Economia

Architect of the ad delivery library running on every site of the media group behind Aktuálně.cz and Hospodářské noviny — five million monthly readers. Later technical lead of the four-person team building the group's ad management system.

Details
  • Analysed why advertising was loading slowly and failing across the group's sites, then designed the library that replaced the previous solution.
  • The library handled script and dependency loading and gave every site one declarative interface for requesting ads.
  • Built it on strict functional-programming principles with a Flux/Redux-inspired architecture, which made ad loading predictable and observable — and made complex loading scenarios possible for the first time.
  • Worked as a product developer on Aktuálně.cz and Žena.cz (in-house PHP CMS and templating system with React on top).
  • Led the ad management team as technical and architecture lead, with some overlap into scrum and project management; the React application ran entirely on AWS Amplify, which the team operated itself.
